About

Golf courses around the world are seeing tangible results from introducing environmentally sustainable management projects across their golf courses. These projects are achieving an increase in habitat varieties, improving playing experiences for golfers and providing a positive contribution to wildlife.

With the ever-increasing spotlight on environmental matters, it is important for all golf courses to assess what they can do to protect and enhance the environment and continue to maximise the enjoyment of golf.

The aim of the Golf Environment Awards is to recognise, reward and promote individuals and golf courses, no matter how big or small, for the time and focus they have put into environmentally sustainable management projects.

Both shortlisted and winning golf clubs will see tangible benefits from entering the awards and there are various different ways to promote your golf club in association with the awards through:

·         Winners logo and Shortlisted logo placed on your website, letterhead and other promotional material

·         National coverage in Golf Monthly, Pitchcare and other media

·         Support in promoting your golf club and environmental focus through local PR

·         Winners plaque to display in the clubhouse

The awards are run annually and offer eleven prizes, with the top two golf courses/individuals winning a trip of a lifetime to the US. More information on the prizes awarded is available on the Prizes page.

There are three categories you can consider for your entry:

  1. Environmental Improvement Project Award – four Awards
To recognise and reward distinctive projects that have been implemented within your golf course across four separate project areas:
    1. Nature Conservation Management
    2. Turfgrass Management
    3. Waste Management
    4. Water Management
  2. Environmental Achievement Awards – six Awards; one Overall Winner and five Regional Awards
To recognise and reward golf courses who have implemented a successful environmental management strategy, with clear objectives and targets on how this strategy will directly contribute to a better environment
  3. Conservation Greenkeeper Award – one Award to an individual
To recognise and reward an outstanding individual contribution to the success of environmental and ecological management

We would encourage any golf club who focuses on environmental issues to enter – the winners are chosen for their dedication and enthusiasm to succeed, and not on the scale of project or size of golf club.
