Welcome

Golf is enjoyed by millions across the globe, as participants and spectators. There are now more than 30,000 golf courses worldwide, each having an important part to play within their local environment.

The Golf Environment Awards were created in 1997 (originally the BIGGA Golf Environment Competition) to highlight effective and sustainable projects being managed by individual golf courses across the UK and reward the individuals that are making real improvements to their local environment and quality of life for the future.

There are eleven prizes presented at an Awards Dinner each January, with the top two golf courses winning a trip of a lifetime to the US and the chance to visit some of the world’s leading golf facilities. Each of the eleven winning golf clubs receives considerable publicity in national and regional media in addition to their individual prizes.

Entry to the awards is free, easy to enter and open to any golf course across the UK, no matter how big or small.

The Golf Course Environment Awards are managed and administered by STRI and each entry is independently judged, not on the scale of project or financial investment, but on what the golf course has achieved and how it has benefited the environment.

The winner of the Conservation Greenkeeper Award in 2009 was Matt Worster, who received his prize of a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the US in May 2010, visiting prestigious courses such as Pine Valley and Shinnecock Hills. Paul Worster, Chairman of BIGGA and Matt’s father commented on Matt’s return from the trip: “As a long-term supporter of the Golf Environment Awards - the 2010 Winner’s Trip has been a credit to the awards, the sponsors and the team at the STRI. I hope it inspires more people to enter and share best practice over future years".

RSA LogoSTRI is delighted to have received RSA Accreditation for The Golf Environment Awards scheme. This demonstrates the quality assurance of the awards to both our sponsors and entrants.
